ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
It is a well-known fact that the agricultural industry in New York has experienced significant changes over the past few decades. As a result, the delicate rural fabric of our landscape is slowly disappearing, as historic barns across the state are dismantled or fall into disrepair due to lack of maintenance. For the past six years, the New York State Barn Coalition has sponsored annual conferences at various locations throughout the state about the importance of historic barns and the need for preservation. Feedback from these conferences has revealed a strong demand for more technical workshops on the best practices for repairing historic barns. This Catskills workshop is designed to do just that. Utilizing some of the most experienced timberframers and barn contractors in the state, participants will work along side master carpenters and learn how to address some of the most common barn repair problems including:
Siding & window repair
Common drainage problems
Roofing materials & repairs
Choosing historically appropriate materials
